Travers Stakes Horse Racing Tickets

2013 marked the 144th running of the Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. The first race dates back to 1864, and the 1.25-mile Midsummer Derby is the oldest major thorough horse race in America. Take part in this historic and exciting event and purchase your Travers Stakes tickets today!

The race was named for William R. Travers, the president of the old Saratoga Racing Association. His horse, Kentucky, was the first winner of the race.

In 1941, Whirlaway became the only horse to ever win the superfecta, winning the Triple Crown then going on to win the Travers as well.

In 2001, the record for total betting was made when Point Given won the race. There were 60,486 fans in attendance and betting rose to over $34 million.

The original Travers Trophy, known as the Man O'War Cup, was designed by Tiffany & Co. It was named for Samuel Riddle's horse of the same name who won in 1920, and he donated the trophy as a permanent award for winning the race. Today, every winner is presented with a gold-plated replica of the trophy by a member of the Riddle family.

The Travers Canoe is another tradition, and each year since 1961, the canoe is painted in the color of the silks of the reigning winner. Don't miss out on the action; get your Travers Stakes tickets today!
