Early years
Born in 1989, Swift was raised in Pennsylvania. She expressed an interest in music from her earliest years, beginning to appear in musical theater performances around the age of 9. She was recognized almost immediately as a standout, and continued to pursue roles around Pennsylvania through her early adolescence. By the time Swift was 12, she had developed a strong interest in songwriting and begun to teach herself how to play guitar. She continued on this road, taking lessons and honing her craft, and ultimately decided to move to Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 14 to pursue music as a full-time career. Though she was met with initial rejections from a number of labels, Swift was ultimately able to secure a recording contract from RCA.

Rise to fame
Though Swift was offered an opportunity songwriting for one of Sony’s publishing houses, she quickly left due to the fact that they wanted her to work primarily as a ghostwriter. While she experienced success and growth as a musician with RCA, she was noticed by executives of the then start-up record label Big Machine, who quickly made her another offer. Swift agreed to sign with the label, which her father purchased a share in shortly beforehand. She began recording with Big Machine and released her debut album, Taylor Swift, in 2006 at the age of 16. Driven largely by the success of the hit single, “Our Song,” Swift’s record began to gain her national attention. She toured in promotion of the album for the next two years, meanwhile releasing other hit singles such as “Teardrops on My Guitar” and “Picture to Burn.” In 2008, she released her sophomore effort, Fearless, to incredible critical acclaim.

Other works and commercial success
Following the release of her second album, Swift put out three more records. Released in 2010, 2012 and 2014, respectively, the albums are titled Speak Now, Red and 1989 (an homage to the year of her birth). All but her freshman album have generated international tours, which have seen Swift play to countless sold-out crowds in every locale imaginable. Among other accolades, she has received more than six Grammy awards.
