The National Football League (NFL) formed in 1920 with eleven teams known as the American Professional Football Association. Two years later, they were renamed the NFL. As of today, the league currently consists of 32 teams separated into two evenly divided conferences – the AFC and NFC. Each conference is then split into four divisions.
