Styx Concert Tickets

As one of the forbearers of prog-rock, Styx has a special place in music history. Since the late 1970s, the Chicago-based band has been a mainstay on classic rock radio stations and remains an icon to legions of fans today, many of whom still line up to buy Styx tickets.

The earliest days of Styx can be traced as far back as 1961, when twin brothers Chuck and John Panozzo decided to form a band. Though they tinkered with the sound and line up over the next several years, by the time 1970 rolled around, they were ready to take the music world by storm. The band’s original sound was more solid rock with hints of prog-rock in the wings. They got their first taste of success thanks to the album Styx II, which featured the popular single "Lady," but it was nothing compared to what the next decade or so had in store. Meanwhile Styx toured with other prog-rockers of the time like David Bowie and Thin Lizzy.

In 1975 Styx played a music festival in Ohio which saw them sharing the stage with Aerosmith and REO Speedwagon, as well as many other top acts from different genres of the time. Then the band's big break came in 1977 with the release of The Grand Illusion. A critical favorite, the record climbed all the way to number six on the Billboard charts and included one of the band's most well-known tunes, "Come Sail Away."

Over the next decade, Styx would be a mainstay on radio with songs such as "Renegade," "Mr. Roboto" and "Too Much Time on My Hand" all making their way up the charts. Continuing their touring frenzy, Styx shared marquees with Kiss, Rush and April Wine. Though the band would go through many changes in lineup, including several splits and reconciliations, over the next few decades, they never lost their place in the hierarchy of the music world. Styx never lost their luster or their acclaimed status, paving a smooth path for the band’s numerous comebacks.
