Early years
While the team was not always the powerhouse it is today, the Cardinals’ history is a rich and storied one. The team played for several years in the now-defunct American Association, which collapsed in the late 1890s. At that time, the Cardinals joined the National League as one of the original 12 teams, cementing the franchise’s place in history. Before being named the Cardinals, the franchise was known as the Browns and then as the Perfectos.

Postseason success
The Cardinals are one of the most successful franchises in all of baseball, having won at least 11 different World Series titles as of 2015. The Cardinals took home the championship three times in the 1940s alone, sustaining a level of incredible play. The team has won the Central Division nine times throughout its history and has taken home the National League title eight times in addition to the 11 times en route to World Series victories, as of 2015.

Busch Stadium
The Cardinals opened the doors to Busch Stadium in 2006, following the closing of the team’s former venue, which is now known as Busch Memorial Stadium. Busch stadium is a structural wonder, boasting a seating capacity of nearly 44,000. Construction of the stadium alone is said to have cost over $600 million.  Additional seating was brought in for a soccer game between Chelsea F.C. and Manchester City F.C. during which the attendance record was set. At that game, played on May 23, 2013, more than 48,000 people packed into the stadium.
