St. Louis Blues Hockey Tickets

The term "blues" might make some people think of New Orleans and soulful jazz music, but those in the St. Louis, Missouri, region think of the state's hockey team. Fans who pick up St. Louis Blues tickets benefit not only from seeing professional hockey in action, but also from gaining a bit of knowledge about hockey history.

The St. Louis Blues, established in 1967, are a professional ice hockey franchise that are part of the Western Conference of the NHL. The Blues play their home games in St. Louis at Scottrade Center. Founded as one of the original NHL expansion teams, the Blues took their moniker from the famed tune "St. Louis Blues" by W.C. Handy.

The franchise is the only surviving team of the first expansion with the NHL yet to secure a Stanley Cup Championship. Despite not yet tasting the Cup, the franchise has earned many other accolades. The team made it to the final round in all of their first three seasons, though they were swept by the Montreal Canadiens in the first two, and then by the Boston Bruins in 1970. The team's original home ice was the St. Louis Arena, an old arena that original team owners renovated for the Blues. Increased seating from 12,000 to 15,000 boosted sales of St. Louis Blues tickets, especially for home games in the arena that was infamous for its thunderous acoustics.

While the Blues enjoyed success in the late 1960s, it did not carry over into the 1970s, after the playoff format was altered and the Chicago Blackhawks were relocated to their division. In the mid-1970s, the Blues sidled over to the Smythe Division after realignment. Over the next few decades the Blues continued to perform competitively, despite a good deal of managerial upheaval.

The team's persistence in the face of chaos paid off, as they secured multiple division championship titles and a Presidents' Trophy. While they often made it to the playoffs, the St. Louis Blues habitually fell in the first or second round of the series, effectively stymieing their shot at the Stanley Cup finals. Over the years, the Blues have won almost 10 Division Championship titles and seen their fair share of stellar players. Fans have had a chance to root for some hockey greats over the years, many of whom have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Such athletes include Bernie Federko, Wayne Gretzky, Doug Harvey, Guy Lapointe, Joe Mullen, Adam Oates, Peter Stastny and Scott Stevens.
