SOJA Concert Tickets

With a name like SOJA, also known as Soldiers of Jah Army, fans of the band might assume they originate from Jamaica or another reggae-influenced nation. However, those who pick up SOJA tickets to see them in person may be surprised to learn the band members actually hail from Virginia.

Longtime friends Jacob Hemphill, the vocalist and guitarist, met bassist Bob Jefferson in the first grade after Hemphill's family moved to Virginia from Africa. The two instantly clicked and starting jamming before meeting fellow band members Ryan Berty, drums, Patrick O'Shea, keyboards and Ken Brownell, percussion, later on in middle and high school.

The band quickly honed-in on their unique sound before making their first debut EP Soldiers of Jah Army in 2000. They then got to work on their first full-length album Peace in a Time of War which was released two years later.

Even though the group developed an underground following almost immediately, they didn't make it on any reggae charts until their second CD Get Wiser in 2006, which made it into the Top 10 Reggae Albums on iTunes. Over the past few years, the band has been busy touring and making DVDs about their time on the road. In 2013 the band hit the road to promote the album Strength to Survive, which dropped Jan. 31, 2012.
