The only word that comes to mind is genius and yet that doesn't even begin to describe the concert. They are so creative and so smart and have such a great understanding of our senses. They could have just gone up on stage and played their instruments and sung their songs and it would have been fantastic but instead they blew my mind, our minds, they put on an extraordinary show. A feast for your eyes and ears. The concert started off simply with harsh green lights backing Jonsi which projected these gigantic monster versions of himself playing his guitar with a cello bow which creates this beautiful and distinct sound that mesmerizes you. I was taken back to when I was a kid and you see strange shadows on the walls of tree branches silhouetted in the moonlight but your imagination takes over, makes you think you were seeing something scary when really it was something quit ordinary. You see this shadow and it's this monster and he has two arms but one reaches long and it strokes something but you cant grasp what but then you turn to the stage and Jonsi is beautifully playing his guitar. But this is only the beginning, the way they lit the screens and giant balloons that pulsed with light played so in sync with their sound that it became one cohesive experience that delighted the senses. You could hear light and see sound. Then there were videos that ranged from them playing their instruments both in black and white and a super psychedelic color fest to these hypnotic and haunting videos of children's faces and at one point it felt like I was trapped in a lake full of sea grass with hands groping outward trying desperately to get through the grass or at least to see beyond. All of this of course enhances the music you are hearing. They take you on a journey and it is an emotional journey. They play melodic music that lulls you into a trance and slowly they build you up until you think you are going to burst, but they don't release you they lull you back into that trance and slowly build again in a teasing fashion and when you can't bear it anymore they let loose with a sound that is so raw and powerful that it takes your body and mind and you are the music it fills you entirely and you never want to part it. Towards the end of the show they get the crowd to clap along at a feverish pace which makes you want to dance and sing and in the moment of it all they released confetti onto the crowd and the theater became one giant snow globe. It was truly a spectacular night and I really wish it didn't have to end. My soul was aglow and life was beautiful as if I put on rose colored glasses and now that it is the next day I hunger for that experience again, an itch I so badly want to scratch. I want to hear light and see sound, I want to experience Sigur Ros. It is something everyone should see at least once in their lifetime.

What can I say, it was Sigur Ros

Pros:
Engaging Stage Presence, Great Lighting, Great Sound
Cons:
Too Short
Best For:
Everyone

Sigur Ros has to be one of the most fasinating groups going right now. The language barrier is almost non-existant. They played hard and with a love for music that everyone was in to.

Sigur Ros Biography

Named in part after a sister of one of the bandmembers, Reykjavik, Iceland's Sigur Rs (Victory Rose) was formed by guitarist and vocalist Jon Thor Birgisson (who later went by the name Jnsi), bassist Georg Holm, and drummer Agust. Formed in early 1994 while the members were teenagers, the trio's first recorded song earned them a deal with Iceland's Bad Taste label. Their sprawling debut LP, Von (Hope), was released in 1997, followed the next year by a collection of remixes from that album, Recycle Bin. Kjartan Sveinsson joined the band on keyboards and the band recorded 1999's strings-heavy gtis Byrjun (Good Start), earning themselves numerous accolades in their homeland and achieving platinum status in sales. Agust then departed and was quickly replaced by Orri Pll DRason.

Svefn-G-Englar, their first release to be distributed outside of their native country, was hailed as ~NME's Single of the Week during September of 1999, launching a press hype steamroller in the U.K. and -- to a lesser extent -- in the U.S. The N Battery single was issued in early 2000, the band's break-out year. British independent Fat Cat began distributing the band, stretching their reach beyond Icelanders and rabid journalists. April dates in England with Godspeed You Black Emperor were capped off by an appearance at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival, and they also opened several dates of Radiohead's European tour before year's end.

Sigur Rs spent the first three months of 2001 off from the road, setting up their own studio and making their third album. Meanwhile, gtis Byrjun found a label in the U.S. and world-wide press became increasingly positive and varied both Entertainment Weekly and The Wire ran features on the band. The group began touring again in April, playing more shows in Europe, a handful in the States, and several more in Japan throughout the remainder of the year. By the end of the year, gtis Byrjun had won the Shortlist Prize for Artistic Achievement in Music it was also declared Iceland's Best Album of the Century.

( ), Sigur Rs' third album, was released in 2002. The majority of the material was honed on the road prior to being recorded at Alafoss, the group's studio, located outside Reykjavik. The album featured a raw sound in comparison to its predecessors and scaled back the extreme highs and lows that were prominent on gtis Byrjun. Three years later, they issued 2005's Takk..., featuring some tighter arrangements and brighter tones. In 2007 they released the documentary film Heima, which chronicled the band's tour of Iceland the previous year alongside an intimate acoustic show at a coffee shop in the small town of Borg.

Released in 2008, Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust found the group adding fairly straightforward pop songs to its sound alongside the traditionally epic soundscapes. After Sigur Rs completed touring for the album (the final weekend of shows recorded and captured on film and then released in 2011 as Inni), they headed back to the studio but scrapped the results and went on a hiatus. During this time, Jnsi launched a solo career, first collaborating with boyfriend Alex Somers (as Jnsi & Alex) on 2009's Riceboy Sleeps, then releasing 2010's Go under his own name. His main claim to fame, though, was recording Sticks and Stones for the soundtrack of How to Train Your Dragon. The group ended its hiatus in April of 2010, playing a set at the Coachella Festival. In October of 2011, they released their first live album, Inni, a document of their 2008 tour. Their understated sixth studio album, Valtari (Steamroller), was issued in May of the following year. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
