Pullman Porter Blues Theater Tickets

Buy your Pullman Porter Blues tickets and be a part of the audience as the cast takes you on a music-filled journey through black history. Set in Post-Prohibition America on a warm summer night in June, black people across the country are celebrating Joe "The Brown Bomber" Louis' victory over James J. Braddock for the World Heavyweight Championship. In the months to follow, they would go on to celebrate the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters successfully negotiating its first collective bargaining agreement with the Pullman Company, creating better working conditions and increasing pay for the all-African American porter staff.

Expertly written by internationally renowned playwright Cheryl L. West and directed by Chuck Smith, you follow the Sykes family through their trials and tribulations as they strive for a better life. Grandfather Sykes, the patriarch of the family, has been a porter nearly all his life and is considered a "good" worker - he doesn't make a fuss and follows orders from his bosses. His son, Sylvester, has a different way of settling disputes, gathering members for the fledgling union.

Beautiful recreations of late-1930s cross-country train cars serve as the backdrop, and detailed costumes and deep soulful renditions of blues classics like "Sweet Home Chicago," "900 Miles" and "Trouble in Mind," bring the characters to life in this must-see play.
