Primus Concert Tickets

From the famous bass slaps to the instantly recognizable vocals, Primus has continued to prove its legacy as one of the most eccentric, unique and audacious alternative bands to emerge from the 1980s. With a sound that teeters between the lines of experimental funk and rambunctious prog rock, Primus formed in 1984 in the town of El Sobrante, California. Steered by songwriting mastermind and innovative bassist Les Claypool, Primus has now enjoyed a career spanning more than 30 years consisting of everything from world tours, Grammy nominations to cartoon television theme songs. Buy your Primus tickets today to catch them on their latest ambitious tour.

The beginning
Before there was Primus there was Primate, a power trio consisting of singer and bassist Claypool, guitarist Todd Huth and drummer Vince Parker. The band was able to finance its first recorded demo by selling off Claypool’s car, and after numerous lineup shuffles, a variety of local gigs displaying their metal/funk fusion and finally changing the name over to Primus, the band started picking up buzz.

In 1990, Primus hit the studio with its current lineup of Claypool, guitarist Larry "Ler" LaDonde and drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander to record its first proper studio album, Frizzle Fry. Fueled by the irresistible catchiness of “John the Fisherman” and “Too Many Puppies," the band soon found itself on the verge of mainstream recognition, and ultimately signed with Interscope Records later that year.

Defining a decade
Primus spent the 90s as a constant force within the rise of alternative rock, always maintaining its distinctive sound while many bands strove to replicate its off-kilter grooviness. Claypool quickly established himself as one of the most unique and talented bassist in rock, and albums such as Sailing the Seas of Cheese and Pork Soda allowed him to unleash his untamed bass lines that blended rockabilly tapping with funky rhythm. Songs such as “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver,” “My Name is Mud” and “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver” helped them headline festivals all over the world, while the latter song earned Primus a Grammy nomination. The band’s popularity only expanded when its members lent their talents to the creators of “South Park” to pen the famous theme song that has opened the show for nearly 20 years.

Primus continues to release new music, tour and expand its immense influence as a band that never met expectations - because no one ever knew what to expect.
