Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Tickets

The Pirates were originally founded as the Pittsburgh Alleghenies in 1887, and Major League Baseball has had a strong presence in Pittsburgh ever since. The Alleghenies were renamed the Pirates in late 1891 after sneakily signing second baseman Louis Bierbauer away from the Philadelphia Athletics. The team has a healthy rivalry with fellow Pennsylvania team the Philadelphia Phillies, as well as the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers, all of whom challenge the Pirates in the Central division.  A rivalry between the Pirates and the Chicago Cubs has also brewed since the 1938 “Homer in the Gloamin,” when Cubs player Gabby Hartnett hit a walk-off home run to knock the Pirates out of the top spot in the National League.

The Pirates won their first National League pennant in 1901 and have gone on to do so at least  nine more times throughout the years. The team has also won seven World Series titles. The Pirates are a team of firsts and have been responsible for making sports history for decades. The first-ever radio broadcast of an MLB game was between the Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies on Aug. 5, 1921. Almost 40 years later, the team became the first franchise in history to win a World Series on a home run, winning game seven of the 1960 championship. The Pirates were also the first team to play a World Series night game, a win that propelled them to clinch the title in 1971.

In more recent years, the Pirates have frequently led the Central division, landing in the postseason in 2013 and 2014. Now they’re looking to take another trip to the World Series and bring the pennant back to Pittsburgh. Don’t miss your chance to see your Pittsburgh Pirates live at beautiful PNC Park.
