We've been attending Indy car races for nearly 25 years, but never here. Sign us up from now on!! This was one of the best races we've seen! Next year - under the lights!!!
I read about traffic contol problems but I got out in less than an hour with little problem. For a cookie cutter mile and a half they put on a great show.
1. The parking and traffic direction was terrible in comparison with previous years.2. I paid [$]for a hot dog that was cooked in 1974.3. Chicagoland's practice of selling tickets in a season package rather than by the event ensures that the stands are full of people--the wrong people! I would rather sit with 50 people who really love and know something about Indycar racing than to be surrounded by 50,000 NASCAR-istas. These people do not understand Indycar racing, they show not one iota of enthusiasm for the racing, and they're nasty!4. Get a new Track announcer! That "howdy-doody" guy is so annoying when you can hear him. Also, he never says anything or provides any information when the cars are on the back stretch under yellow, only when things are noisy.5. Turn up the volume on the PA system.6. I'll save most of the things I have to say about IRL management, except to say that officiating biases and inconsistencies that have been exacerbated over the past few weeks led to the premature announcement of Scott Dixon as the race winner, and that spoiled the race for everyone. IRL wants to make it look like a technical snafu, and maybe it was, but you don't proclaim the winner until you're sure.7. The issue of how to handle victory celebrations when the race winner and the championship winner are different has long been under my skin. The race winner comes FIRST, THEN the championship winner.7. It may seem trite, but we did not get to see Helio climb the fence, which would have been a great media moment.8. They confiscated my umbrella (What can you do with an umbrella?), which was packed up and carried away by the time I came out.
Easy to get to, don't plan on leaving track in a hurry
