After completing training in the drama division of Juilliard, she began her career as a founding member of John Houseman's The Acting Company, playing a variety of lead roles on and off-Broadway. LuPone rose to international stardom after playing the title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Evita. The role earned her Tony and Drama desk honors in 1980. She went on to create the role of Fantine in Les Miserables in London's West End, which won her an Olivier award, the first ever for an American actress. In addition to her impressive theater background, LuPone has also performed in movies and television shows. She's won countless awards for her work including Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critic awards. Most recently she starred on Broadway in the musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and is the author of the best-selling autobiography, Patti LuPone: A Memoir.
