The New York Islanders, established in 1972, are a professional ice hockey team that are part of the Eastern Conference of the NHL. Current members of the Atlantic Division, the Isalnders play their home games at Nassau Coliseum located in Uniondale, New York. The Atlantic Division team shares its territory with two other franchises in the New York metropolitan area, the New Jersey Devils and the New York Rangers. The Islanders rivalry with the Rangers is infamous, and has been branded the the "Battle of New York" by hockey fans. While the team struggled in their first season, posting a worst record of 12-60-6, it would be only a short time before the Isles ascended to the honored dynasty designation. Once awarded the dynasty title, New York Islanders tickets became a difficult item to acquire. Starting in 1975, the Isles pulled off one of the biggest turnarounds in NHL history. The team shocked their New York rival by taking them down in a best of three first round series. They then continued to stun crowds by defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins after returning from being three down to take a best of seven series. It was only in the third round of the playoffs that the isles were stopped in their tracks by the powerhouse Philadelphia Flyers. Though they were blocked in their skate up to the prestigious Stanley Cup, it wouldn't discourage the hard hitting Islanders. The team went on to win numerous conference and division championships as well as gain the dynasty moniker by taking home four consecutive Stanley Cup victories.
