The New Jersey Devils, established in 1974, are a professional ice hockey team that are part of the Eastern Conference of the NHL. Current members of the Atlantic Division, the Devils play their home games at Prudential Center located in Newark, New Jersey. The franchise began their life as the NHL expansion the Kansas City Scouts based in Kansas City, Missouri. Their first game against the Toronto Maple Leafs was a glimpse into the team's future as they lost 4-2. Two years was all that the team had in Missouri due to mounting debt and the inability to sell tickets in an economic downturn. In 1976 the team got a new start as the Colorado Rockies, though several losing seasons and managerial instability continued to impact the team's performance. After six years the team was sold and relocated to the East coast where they would be playing against Atlantic Division powerhouses like the New York Islanders and the New York Rangers. The team was named after the tale of the Jersey Devil, a creature that inhabits and haunts the Pine Barrens of South Jersey. Their first game in their new East coast home was played against the Pittsburgh Penguins, resulting in a 3-3 draw. While it may have taken a few years for the Devils to find their footing, once they got it they were relentless. The team has garnered over a dozen conference and division championship titles combined as well as several Stanley Cup Finals victories. With the only honor eluding the team being the Presidents' Trophy, New Jersey Devils tickets are a must for hockey aficionados and nonfans alike.
