The 2014 NCAA men’s Midwest regional tournament was one of the fiercest in college basketball history. The Wichita State Shockers entered the regionals as the No. 1 seed, coming off of a stellar regular season record of 31-0. Many sports analysts believed the team might be the last one standing at the end of the tournament. The Shockers routed the California Polytechnic State University Mustangs in the first round of the Midwest regionals, 64-37. In the next round, however, the No. 8 seed Kentucky proved to be more than a match for the Wichita State, defeating the Shockers 78-76.
