Dallas Mavericks Basketball Tickets

Since they entered the league in 1980, the Dallas Mavericks have risen to become one of the most successful franchises in the NBA. Each game is an exciting event, and anybody who has picked up Dallas Mavericks tickets and headed to the American Airlines Center will certainly agree.

Known to their fans by the nickname the Mavs, the Dallas Mavericks are members of the Southwestern Division of the Western Conference. The Mavs first came onto the court after the former Dallas-based team moved to San Antonio, Texas, becoming the San Antonio Spurs. The franchise was formed when local business owners requested the right to form a new team. In 1980, league owners voted in the Dallas Mavericks, officially establishing the team. Named after a 1960s Western TV show, the Mavs have won multiple conference and divisional titles since their inception.

Despite coming into the league at a time when the likes of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird ruled the courts, it didn't take long for the Mavericks to establish themselves as regular contenders, and during the 1982-83 season they made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. By the end of the decade, they were regularly winning 50-plus games each season, and they quickly became a staple of the playoffs. However, the championship still eluded them.

After a lull in the 1990s, the Mavs welcomed superstars Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki, and they would never be the same. The duo transformed the team and helped bring the Mavs to their first final. Breaking through a period of darkness, the Dallas Mavericks returned to distinction with their first appearance in the NBA Finals in 2006. Even with the Mavs roller coaster history, the team has churned out a handful of Basketball Hall of Fame players as well as a few industry-recognized names like Alex English, Dennis Rodman, Dirk Nowitzki and Rolando Blackman. Though Nash left, Nowitzki led Dallas to its first NBA Championship title in 2011.

Noted rivalries of the Mavericks are the San Antonio Spurs and the Phoenix Suns. Regardless of their roster, the Dallas Mavericks are among the most exciting teams to see live.
