Mark Knopfler in Charlotte
By Celeste from Florence, SC on 7/29/2008
Pros:
Crowd Was In To It, Engaging Stage Presence, Great Encores, Great Lighting, Great Sound, Perfect Set List
Cons:
Opening Acts too long, Opening band sucked
Best For:
Everyone

A comment on the crowd: as a general rule, respectful, but as always, people yelling at random during more quiet moments was irritating and redneck. Great music, good sound quality, fun songs. Weird mix of fans from leftover hippies, to bluegrass fans, to guitar aficionados, to social rejects.

While he began his professional career as a journalist and a teacher, Knopfler found musical success when he formed Dire Straits in 1977. The band was quickly picked up by the Warner Bros. record label and released their self-titled debut album in 1978. "Sultans of Swing" instantly became a hit in the United Kingdom and in the United States. The album's hits were consistently featured on pop and classic rock radio stations around the country. After the release of several successful albums with Dire Straits, Knopfler branched out and began a solo career. His debut album, Golden Heart, was released in 1995, and was later followed by Sailing to Philadelphia, which featured collaborations with industry legends like Van Morrison, Gillian Welch and James Taylor.
