WILTERN good people GOOD TIMES
Les Claypool put on a high class show. He went through most of his armory of unique basses, and we saw many of his trademark masks. He played to the crowd and played long and hard...it felt like he was really earining his money on this show. While the Wiltern gave us a nice close view of Les and his act, the sound quality was really bad, and the seats are really uncomfortable. This has always been a problem at the Wiltern, I remember seeing acts in the 80's and experiencing the same issues. They really ought to upgrade the sound and seats! The crowd was pretty lame, too. I think Les is worth a better crowd that would show more interest in his show and show it with a bit more class. half the crowd acted apethetic, and the other half was really crude...and there were way too few women. Anyway...Les was great. BTW, the first opening act really sucked (Tim Fite) and did not fit as an opener for Les...a complete waste of time. Oh yeah...The Wiltern also played some really horrible scratchy old Christmas tunes during the breaks...this was INCREDIBLY annoying...I found myself in the lobby guzzling cocktails to calm my nerves from it.
