Indiana State Sycamores Basketball Tickets

Having begun play in 1896, the Sycamores of Indiana State are one of the four oldest basketball programs in the country, joining Bucknell University, the University of Minnesota and the University of Washington. That long tradition, as well as the preeminent place that the game of basketball plays in Indiana, have made the Sycamores one of the most cherished programs in the NCAA. Become a part of that tradition by picking up some Indiana State Sycamores tickets now.

Indiana State's past isn't solely defined by the longevity of the program. And while its place as an early stop in the coaching career of John Wooden, probably the most vaunted head coach in college basketball history, certainly brings it recognition, Indiana State is better known for something that happened in the much more recent past.

It all started in 1975, when a local boy from French Lick, Ind., who had dropped out of the University of Indiana because he found Bloomington too intimidating, came to the Terre Haute campus. His name was Larry Bird, and he would go on to become one of the greatest players in basketball history.

Bird's career at Indiana State culminated in an appearance in the 1979 NCAA finals, where the Sycamores fell to the Magic Johnson-led Michigan State Spartans in a classic game that would set the stage for the two men's rivalry once they reached the NBA.
