How the Grinch Stole Christmas the musical debuted in 1994 in Minneapolis. Since 1998, this family show based on the Dr. Seuss book by the same name has been thrilling audiences annually at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. Directed by Jack O’Brien with lyrics and music by Timothy Mason, the show was first adapted from the original score written by Mel Marvin. Keeping songs from the television special with lyrics written by Dr. Seuss, three new songs were added in 2007 including “This Time of Year,” “It’s the Thought That Counts” and “Fah Who Doraze.” The theater production was transferred to Broadway in 2006 under the direction of Matt August. It debuted on November 8, 2006, at the Hilton Theatre and ran until January 7, 2007. This was the first production to offer 12 showings per week. In the first week of its December 2006 run, it topped the box office grosses, ultimately ending the 100 week streak of Wicked. The holiday season just wouldn’t be the same without this joyous family friendly production! Purchase your How the Grinch Stole Christmas tickets now before the season is over!
