The only thing negative was that we were not able to distinguish words. Settings were imaginative and unique.
We came to New York on a vacation and had a wonderful experience going to the Lincoln Center Metropolitan Opera House and seeing Hansel and Gretel. The Opera House itself is a sight to see. There are beautiful crystal chandeliers from the government of Austria that rise up to the ceiling when the opera begins. Also there is a infrared digital display before each seat that has the opera subtitles in English, Spanish, or German or you can leave them off. The top two tiers have seats with desks and lamps (again when on other patrons cannot see the light) so an opera goer could buy a libreto or score (available in the gift shop) and follow along with the program. I imagined young opera students or perhaps orchestral students doing this.
The music was fantastic and just listening to the orchestra would be worth the price of admission.
The opera itself was very well done. The sets were very original and the singing of course was superb. The costumes were really different in that they were contemporary.
We had a really great time. After the Opera we went out to dinner with my family. It was a lovely evening. Marye
Loved the atmosphere of the Metropolitan Opera. We are not big opera fans, however, we really enjoyed Hanzel & Gretel.
Thoroughly enjoyed the unique set designs and the whole production. Was not sure it was for very young children as parts were a little frightening.
