Gordon is Still Awesome!
By Linda n Ohio from Ohio on 6/24/2010
Pros:
Crowd Was In To It, Engaging Stage Presence, Great Encores, Great Lighting, Great Sound
Best For:
Everyone

I have followed and known Gordon for over 35 years and am honored to have heard the best singer songwriter ever. Most recent at Fraze Pavilion in Kettering Ohio and in Akron at the Akron Civic Theatre 2010. His passion for music is unsurpassed- his emotion with which he sings continues to come through no matter what age- this will never change because Gordon and his songs are one- His love of the audience and their love of him blends both together- I am extremely proud of his accomplishments and again am honored to have known him . I would travel to all his shows if possible Gods Speed to Gordon and a great band - Rick, Terry, Barry and Michael Linda

A legend whose time has come and gone.
By Tom from York, Pa on 6/16/2010
Pros:
Crowd Was In To It, Great Sound, Quality theatre
Cons:
Very weak voice
Best For:
Adults

The backup group was the highlight of the show. Gordon Lightfoot appeared all of his 71 years. It was very hard to hear him sing, and I think at first he wasn't even hitting the microphone. He seems to mumble when signing or talking to the audience. I was very dissapointed in the performance. I too would recommend buying the CDs and listening to what used to be. He seems to still be suffering the effects of his medical problems from 8 years ago. His right hand seems to be still paralyzed from the stroke--it hardly moves. Without the great lead guitarist, it really would have been a disaster.

Light still has it all in 2010
By Chris from Southern California, Orange County on 5/18/2010
Pros:
Crowd Was In To It, Engaging Stage Presence, Great Lighting, Great Sound
Best For:
Everyone

He still has it-- saw him at the Coach House in San Jaun Capistrano California late last year---- the voice is a bit quieter but waaaaaaay in tune, great phrasing and control and of course playing...this is THE guy who writes all of these songs and no one on the planet sings them as well as he--- I will still be buying tickets when this stud is just humming the tunes--- it is still a great experience--colors on the palet change but the art is still as good --- or better--- I have seen him a half dozen times going back to the Golden Bear in Huntington Bech in about 68 or so----he is the best...end of story----

Gordon Lightfoot put on such a fabulous, magnificant @ charming performance at the Sunrise Theatre in Ft. Pierce, Florida 3-13-10 !!!! The years for each and every one of us takes its toll, however, he took us down "memory-lane" like no other artis could. Only those who were with him thru the 60's can appreciate his passion for music & his audiance. His presence and sence of homor was so enchanting! Look at your own self - nothing stays the same forever. He @ his band performed with tenderness and sincerity. If he comes to your town & you relate to his poetic essence, GET A TICKET! Remember, time stands still for no one! He was outstanding & took me back to a time & place of how beautiful music began. His talent and life experiences should have us all take a look at our accomplishments.Do YOU still sound & look the same 35 years ago? He was awesome! He surely can jam!

Gordon Lightfoot Biography

Canadian Gordon Lightfoot first began to gain recognition in the mid-'60s as a songwriter when his compositions For Lovin' Me and Early Morning Rain became hits for Peter, Paul & Mary, and Marty Robbins topped the country charts with Ribbon of Darkness. Lightfoot's own style was understated, his tasteful folk arrangements topped by a gentle burr of a voice. His albums began to appear in 1966, but it was not until the start of the '70s that he became a big success as a performer, scoring in 1970 with Sit Down Young Stranger, which contained his hit If You Could Read My Mind, a song with a typically flowing melodic line and gently poetic lyrics.

Thereafter, the first half of the '70s were his. Lightfoot hit a peak in 1974 with Sundown, which went to number one, as did the title song when released on a single. Though he had developed a timeless style, Lightfoot was caught by the popular decline of folk-based music in the latter half of the 1970s, and has performed and recorded less frequently since, sometimes trying to conform to perceived commercial trends without success. But concert appearances in the early '90s confirmed that he remained an engaging performer and that his catalog of original songs was hard to match. A Painter Passing Through was released in 1998.

In 2002 Lightfoot suffered a near-fatal abdominal hemorrhage while performing in his hometown of Orillia, Ontario, causing him to cancel his fall tour. When he awoke from a coma weeks later, the tenacious artist immediately began picking tracks from the 18 demos he'd recorded in 2001 and urged his band to flesh them out in the studio. Harmony, his 20th album, was released in May of 2004 ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
