History
The Warriors weren’t always based in California, as the team got its start under the same name in Philadelphia. It was founded in the city of brotherly love in 1946 as a member of the BAA, the Basketball Association of America. That year, in the first ever season of the BAA, the Warriors brought the national championship title back home to Philly, establishing itself as a serious contender in professional basketball for years to come. The franchise was relocated to San Francisco and became the San Francisco Warriors, a name it would hold for nearly a decade before rebranding to its current name in the early 1970s.

Location and fan base
The Golden State Warriors play home games at Oracle Arena in San Francisco, where they routinely delight sold out crowds with their incredibly elite level of play. The team has done well by its fans, ultimately winning three national titles in the 1946-1947, 1955-1956 and 1974-1975 basketball seasons. In addition to these accolades, the team has also earned three conference titles in the East, another three in the West and a total of two division titles. Before the 1996-1997 NBA season, Oracle Arena was remodeled to offer more luxurious and accommodating facilities to both players and fans. The stadium can now seat a roaring crowd of 19,596 highly energized Warrior fans. The team wears uniforms with a white, gold and royal blue color scheme, and its jerseys feature an iconic silhouette of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Notable players
As an elite Western Conference powerhouse, the Golden State Warriors have no shortage of noteworthy athletes who rose to prominence throughout their system. In accordance with this, the team has retired six different jerseys. Fans of the Warriors can see the jersey numbers of Nate Thurmond, Chris Mullen, Rock Barry, Tom Meschery, Al Attles and Wilt Chamberlain, one of the best scorers of all time, hanging from the rafters of the Oracle Arena.
