I purchased tickets for Doubt as Christmas presents for family believing the plot would be an engaging drama. I had no idea how short the play was (about 70 mins.) or how simple the characters would be. The acting was fair but truly fake. Unlike a comedy or a musical, this drama could have taken on a real life feel had the actors been more engaging to their parts. The priest was the poorest performer especially during his mass sermons (soliloquies). Had he acted more like a real priest I believe the story have been more valid, however his sermons were not sincere or energetic. The second worst was the mother of the school boy who probably portrayed the sentiment at the time but again failed to bring sincerity to the stage. The best performance was given by the principal who brought real emotion with her character and displayed the true stereotypical nun.
I was amazed at how much the writer and actors allowed a play involving such an unspeakable subject matter to be enjoyed by so many..
