Don McLean Concert Tickets

You know him from the all-time hit song "American Pie," but that's not all Don McLean is famous for. "Vincent," a tribute to Vincent Van Gogh that was released in 1971, also helped push McLean to international stardom. The successful country, folk singer and songwriter started his music career performing at folk clubs in New York City in the mid-1960s. McLean became interested in folk music as a teenager. However, he missed several of his music lessons in school due to childhood asthma. McLean did not let his medical condition keep him from pursuing music. He performed shows for his friends and family when he could, and bought his first guitar when he was 16. McLean also began making friends in the music industry while he was in prep school, getting to know singers like Erik Darling and Lisa Kindred.

An encounter with music agent Harold Leventhal helped McLean land gigs for about six years at the Bitter End and the Gaslight Cafe in New York City, as well as the Newport Folk Festival. In addition to his performances, McLean attended night classes at Iona College and received his bachelor's degree in business administration. He even turned down a scholarship to Columbia University's graduate school to sing at Caffe Lena in New York.

McLean's first album, Tapestry, was released in 1970. However, it did not garner him the acclaim he expected. He came back in 1971 with American Pie, which instantly became a hit. Don't miss your chance to see Don McLean perform LIVE! Buy your Don McLean tickets now!
