Parton started her career at an early age, performing on TV for the first time at the age of 12. The following year, she signed her first record deal with a small label and appeared at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn. Continuing to write and sell her songs, she reached a career milestone in 1965 when she landed a deal with Monument Records. By 1967, she had written and produced her debut album, Hello, I’m Dolly. Later that year, country singer Porter Wagoner teamed up with Parton to produce “The Last Thing On My Mind,” which made it into the Top 10 of the Billboard country charts.

Since then, Parton has won dozens of country music awards both as a singer and songwriter and acted in the film Nine to Five (1980).
