Detroit Lions Tickets

Detroit has a reputation of being one of the most football-crazy cities in the United States, and fans of the Detroit Lions are certainly a testament to that. For more than 75 years, the Lions have been among the most beloved teams in the National Football League, and as they enter a new period in their history, Detroit Lions tickets have become increasingly popular.

The Detroit Lions are members of the North Division of the NFC in the NFL. The team’s home field is Ford Field located in Detroit proper. Established in 1929, the Lions originally played as the Portsmouth Spartans, an independent football team based out of Ohio. By 1930 the team gained full NFL membership and finished the season with a 5-6-3 record. During this time the soon to be Lions and the Chicago Bears had the same amount of victories after the regular season. In order to determine a winner the two teams played each other, leading to the establishment of the Eastern and Western conferences and a regular championship game beginning in 1933. While successful in competition, demonstrated by the team’s 1932 19-0 win over the Green Bay Packers using only 11 players for the entire game, the team wasn’t working on a small town scale and moved to Detroit in 1934.

By the 1950s the Lions were enjoying the most successes they had ever experienced, making Detroit Lions tickets a hot commodity. They won the League Championship three times in six years, defeating the Cleveland Browns each time. Then in 1958 the departing of a player cast a shadow over the team’s success and began an era referred to as the “Curse of Bobby Layne.” Since that time the Lions have earned a few division championship wins and made several Playoff appearances, but the closest they have gotten to the Super Bowl pinnacle was in 1993 when the Lions won the NFC Central. Still the Detroit Lions continue to roar out on the field against their Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings divisional rivals.

Although the next several decades were not quite as kind to the Lions, their fan base nevertheless remained loyal to their hometown team - a decision which certainly paid off by the time the 1990s rolled around. In 1989, the Lions decided to draft Barry Sanders and it was a move that would have lasting ramifications. The Heisman Trophy winner quickly became the most electrifying player in the league, leading the Lions to an NFC Championship appearance in 1991. Although Sanders retired following the 1998 season, his legacy lives on with Lions such as wide receiver Calvin Johnson and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh carrying the banner of franchise players. Don't miss your chance to see today's legends grace the field. Tackle your chance to score Detroit Lions tickets today!
