Seems like Dennis Miller was running late, so the Opener, Richard Beltzer, had to go a little longer that he planned. He was unexpectedly funny and entertaining. Dennis Miller was great. You really have to think and pay attention when he gets rolling. Sometimes it is a delayed laugh till what he says sinks in!!

Dennis came out slurring his words and reading jokes from notes. He repeated the same joke several times and didn't stop slurring his words until late in the show. He was funny and irreverent, however, and still got laughs. I think he disrespected the audience by not showing up to play.

First off the Genesee renovations are spectacular, they did a really great job and the staff is first rate. It's a lovely venue. Some folks told me after the show they though Dennis seemed intoxicated. Sitting 5 feet from him I don't think that was the case. I think he was a bit slow to warm up, maybe even a bit tired, but he warmed up pretty quickly. I think folks who thought he was drunk referenced him repeating some things and I think those were jokes they were missing. If you've seen Dennis' HBO specials lately you will recognize some of the material but there's some great new stuff thrown in. Best part of the show though, by far, was the encore where he took audience questions and had great reflections on his MNF and SNL experiences. A great show, a superb and unique comic, you owe it to yourself to see him in action live.

The last time we saw Dennis Miller was in the early 1980s in Pittsburgh, PA. He had not yet hit it big but was REALLY funny. We decided to see him again. He was fantastic. You can tell that he is very intelligent by the literature and history that he references, but even with that you can still get the jokes not knowing his references. He brings up things that are very topical including airline baggage, the war in Iraq and even global warming. None of it sound stale and all of it is funny. Definitely would recommend seeing him. The only thing that makes it adults only is some talk about body parts, but it is definitely not as bad as some on HBO or MTV.
