Paradise Theater was my first album I ever purchased. During a very difficult time in my life at the age of 12, with my dad going down with M.S. at the time, I escaped into the music as I laid on my bed, perusing the inside photos and following along to the lyrics. Since then I've experienced the typical stuff -- love, heartache, having kids, stresses of life in general. When DDY broke into Best of Times I couldn't help but cry.
It would be an understatement to say that this man has maintained everything that made him great in the 70s and 80s. Of course his singing may be second to none in the pop/rock genre, but his intelligence, sensitivity, thoughtfulness, humility, humor.... All was on display last night at the Minnesota State Fair.
DDY is Styx. "JY" and Princess Tommy may not want us to think so, but it's true. It's his writing, his arrangements, and his voice.
I've been to more than 50 shows in my life, but this one may rank in the top 5.
