An interesting fact about Demetri Martin is that he graduated from Yale University in 1995 and was accepted into Harvard University, but chose to go to New York University School of Law. Martin caught his first big break in 2001 when he appeared in a stand-up comedy showcase that was produced by Comedy Central called Premium Blend. He has written numerous specials as well, and worked as a staff writer for the Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Martin is known for using musical instruments in his stand up routine and usually has music playing to prevent his performances from being edited for television.

In 2004, Martin was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music, or Comedy Program. He won a Writers Guild of America award in 2005 for Comedy/Variety (Including Talk) Series, and has won several other awards for his comedic talent. He has cited comedy legend Bill Cosby as an inspiration.
