The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is an annual arts and music festival that takes place at the Empire Polo Club. Referred to as just Coachella, the festival originally took place in 1999. During its two-day debut the festival showcased acts like Beck, Tool and Morrissey. While the promoters hoped to make the concert a three-day event, this plan didn’t come to fruition until 2007. By that time the festival had reached large-scale production and Coachella tickets sold out on a regular basis.
The multi-stage event plays host to various genres of music from country to rap. Allowing concertgoers to camp onsite, Coachella Festival makes an attempt at sustainability by encouraging carpooling, recycling and providing stations for refillable water bottles. While acts like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kanye West, Madonna, Jay-Z, Arcade Fire, Florence and the Machine and the Black Keys grace the stages, attendees can get their karaoke on at the campground.
