|The circus is a theatrical tradition that has captivated audiences around the world for generations. Yet while many companies continue to hold big top events to this day, Montreal-based performance troupe Cirque du Soleil has redefined the circus for a new generation. Combining unique visual presentation with stunning acrobatics, heartfelt performance pieces and modern rock music, the troupe has proven to be one of the most compelling forces in the entertainment industry, boasting touring programs as well as fixed-venue performances in cities like Orlando, Florida; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Tokyo, Japan. In recent years, the organization has embraced many modern performers into their stage shows, and one of the troupe's most impressive feats can be witnessed with Cirque du Soleil: Criss Angel Believe tickets.
For the uninitiated, Criss Angel is one of the world's most celebrated street magicians, gaining notoriety for his colorful set pieces that became a staple of his television show, Criss Angel Mindfreak. Though he banked his trade on slight of hand magic, levitation and escape artistry, Angel's collaboration provides a glimpse behind the curtain, telling a magical tale of the artists rise to fame.
"This show is about my life," Angel told the LA Times in a 2008 interview. "It's 'Alice in Wonderland.' It's 'The Wizard of Oz.' 'Mindfreak.' It's about the demons in my head, the good that's out there, the angels and love and lust - all that stuff mixed up."
The magician claims to have spent 15 years developing the story, imagery, stunts and illusions that would become Criss Angel Believe, and the show has emerged as an astounding theater experience. Notable set pieces appearing in the show include a giant Tesla coil, falling stage equipment, large mechanical tables, ornate puppets and more. The show boasts an extensive roster of illusions, so there is always a surprise waiting around every corner.
Another key element to the performance is the music, which was composed by Cirque du Soleil mainstay Eric Serra. The French composer combined sweeping, ethereal soundscapes with Angel's well professed love for modern heavy metal music to create a uniquely appropriate soundtrack to this dark, yet magical adventure.
When asked how he felt about an early performance, Angel was optimistic about the direction of the show.
"The audience was obviously entertained by it," he told the LA Times. "They experienced something we're offering that no other show is offering. But from a technical standpoint, because of the way I am, a perfectionist … I think we've got a lot of work ahead of us."
