Brown got his start at a young age. With encouragement from his mother to follow his gift for singing, he began to perform in local talent shows and at his church. His vocals were well received, but it wasn’t until he was 15 that he truly entered the spotlight. With the help of a talent scouting team, Brown was brought to meet Tina Davis, an executive for Def Jam Recordings. Thoroughly impressed by the young singer’s talent, Davis entered into negotiations with Island Def Jam Music Group. Regrettably, the negotiations failed to pan out due to Davis losing her job. Shortly thereafter, she signed on independently as Brown’s manager and got him a deal with Jive Records. Brown was attending Essex High School at the time, but he left in 2005 to pursue his musical career in New York City.
Brown has seen his fair share of commercial success across the release of multiple studio albums since 2005. His albums include Chris Brown, Exclusive, Graffiti, F.A.M.E., Fortune and X. His first release, a self-titled album, was one of his most critically acclaimed. Driven by the radio-friendly vibes of such hits as “Run It!” and “Gimme That,” the album would peak at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart after being released on Nov. 29, 2005. It also went on to earn a platinum distinction, having sold more than 3 million albums total worldwide and 1.9 million in the U.S. Brown has also established himself as a successful touring act on a global level, performing at festivals all over the world.
In addition to his career as a musician and dancer, Brown has also made a name for himself in television and on the silver screen. His debut as a film actor came in 2007 when he appeared in "Stomp the Yard," a movie about rival break dancing crews. Later that year, he would rise to even more prominence through acting in a three-episode stint on the then-popular show, “The O.C.” He’s also made appearances in a number of other films including “This Christmas,” “Into the Woods,” “Think Like a Man,” “Takers” and “Phenom.”
