Early life
Underwood was born and raised in a modest household in Checotah, Oklahoma. Her parents both worked and she spent the majority of her youth on their family farm. She first expressed an interest in singing by becoming involved with the choir and other musical programs at her local church. She would pursue other opportunities to demonstrate and hone her vocal talents throughout her early adolescence, performing at town festivals and events. Ultimately, her talents gained her the support of numerous individuals in Checotah, who encouraged her to audition for a recording deal with Capitol in Nashville, Tennessee. Underwood went through with this in her early teenage years and came close to getting a contract with the label, though it ultimately fell through.

Rise to fame
Though her initial audition with Capitol didn’t play out, Underwood was inspired to audition for “American Idol” while she attended Northeastern State University. She earned a spot in the fourth season of the show after demonstrating her talents for the judges in summer 2004. Following a heated contest, Underwood emerged as the winner of that year’s season, earning a professional recording contract, among other rewards. Following her victorious performance on “American Idol,” Underwood wasted no time making a splash in the popular music. She released her debut single, “Inside Your Heaven” in June 2005 and never looked back. Her single generated an even larger buzz leading up to the release of her debut album, Some Hearts, which came out in November of the same year and fared extremely well. Some Hearts has been certified platinum seven times over and is listed among the fastest selling female debut albums of all time.

Career progress and critical reception
Since the release of Some Hearts, Underwood has only continued to grow her career. She has put out three other full-length albums: Carnival Ride, Play On and Blown Away, which were released in 2007, 2009 and 2012, respectively. With each album she has maintained a rigorous touring schedule, and even managed to play shows throughout most of her pregnancy. She routinely sells out arenas, stadiums and other large venues with her established fan base and electrifying performances. While she has received countless awards from many musical organizations, few speak as much to the caliber of her work as the seven Grammys with which she has been honored.
