The Buffalo Sabres, established in 1970, are a professional ice hockey team that are current members of the Eastern Conference, Northeast Division of the NHL. Named through a fan contest, the winning moniker was chosen in reference to the weapon carried by military leaders and utilized for defense strategies. The Sabres' home rink is First Niagara Center located in Buffalo, New York. In their first season the team had several top picks in the draft, yet it did little to ensure success as the Sabres saw themselves locked out of Playoff contention. Not until their third season did this hockey squad make their first trip to the Playoffs, only to be defeated in the quarterfinals by the Montreal Canadiens. The Buffalo-based team often packs a punch during regular season games with record setting goals and serious on-ice action. This type of play dependability is what has garnered the team a dedicated fan base and opened up the demand for Buffalo Sabres tickets. It is this same level of play that has drawn in numerous rivalries with the likes of the Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Hard regular season play aside, the Sabres have had a difficult time keeping their footing when it comes down to the Playoffs wire. Since the beginning of their NHL career, the Sabres have won a few conference titles and several division championships, though that coveted Stanley Cup Finals win has continued to elude them.
