Moving to Music City
Born in Jefferson, Georgia, Gilbert was involved in a near-fatal car accident when he was only 19 years old. This proved to be a defining moment for the young artist, as it helped Gilbert realize he wanted to pursue music as a career. After building a reputation as a solo act around small acoustic venues, Gilbert formed a band and moved to Nashville to make music a top priority. Gilbert signed with Warner Campbell Publishing and released his debut album, Modern Day Prodigal Son, in 2009.

The follow-up LP, Halfway to Heaven, was released about a year later. During this era, Gilbert also wrote songs for Jason Aldean and Colt Ford, including hits like “My Kinda Party” and “Dirt Road Anthem.”

Becoming a country star
Gilbert found success with his first two albums, but neither produced a hit single that defined him within the genre. Gilbert signed on with Valory Music Co. in early 2011, allowing the label to reissue Halfway to Heaven with bonus tracks, which brought about new hits such as “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do.” The reissue also sparked renewed interest in tracks such as “Kick It in the Sticks” and garnered Gilbert an Academy of Country Music Award in 2013.

In May 2014, Gilbert released Just as I Am, led by the singles “Bottoms Up” and “Small Town Throwdown” (which featured Justin Moore and Thomas Rhett). Throughout his career, Gilbert has always written songs with a purpose in mind, making his music incredibly accessible. Gilbert’s music is also profoundly personal, giving his sound an esoteric aura that can’t be readily defined. Like his music, his performances are energized and fearless, leaving everything on stage. For avid country music fans, Brantley Gilbert is a must-see live performance to cross off your bucket list.
