Billy Saves the Day!
By Needles from Fairfax, VA on 7/13/2009
Pros:
Crowd Was In To It
Cons:
No complaints

Billy Joel saved the day (or night) at the Elton John / Billy Joel concern on July 11th in Nationls Ball Park in Washington, DC. Elton walked out shortly after the opening duet after claiming that a pedal on his piano did not work and left Billy to figure out what to do next. Billy even tried to fix Elton's piano by throwing off his jacket and crawling under the piano but Elton stormed out anyway. What happened after that was an absolutely great concert by Billy alone with crowds totally drawn to the magnificient performance. Elton did finally return after an exhausted Billy give all he could but Elton's performance was sort of a "candle in the wind" when compared to Billy's earlier smash. I was sort of equal towards both performers but now only back Billy as both a great performer and someone who actually cares about his audience and his other band members. Thanks Billy - I'm looking forward to your next event (hopefully without Elton next time).

Billy Joel Concert Tickets

With more than five decades under his belt, pianist and singer/songwriter Billy Joel has racked up an impressive number of multi-platinum albums and hit songs that have helped establish him as the classic rock icon that he is today. If you haven't seen Billy Joel perform LIVE, now is your chance. If you have been lucky enough to catch him in concert, then you know you can't afford to pass up Billy Joel tickets.

Born in New York, Billy Joel had always shown a passion for music, but his musical abilities made him the target of ridicule while in high school. That bullying led the young Piano Man to take up boxing so that he could defend himself. After failing to graduate high school by one credit, Billy Joel embarked on a professional music career that would lead him to become one of the most successful and influential artists of our time.

Joel saw his first hit single with the release of his debut album. The Top 40 hit, "Piano Man," earned the artist his now iconic nickname and spurred his first national tour, opening for acts like the Doobie Brothers and the J. Geils Band. Just a year later, Joel released his sophomore album, Streetlife Serenade, again charting on the Top 40 with hit songs like "The Entertainer."

By the latter half of the decade, Joel had reached superstardom, releasing his fourth album, The Stranger. The 1977 album went platinum and featured Top 40 singles "Just the Way You Are" "Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)," "She's Always a Woman" and "Only the Good Die Young." The 1980s saw the pianist embrace the punk/new wave movement with his album, Glass Houses, featuing Joel''s first song to reach No. 1 on the Billboard's pop singles chart. "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me" is now a classic rock staple.

In 1983, Joel released An Innocent Man, earning three Billboard Top 10 singles with "Uptown Girl," "Tell Her About It" and "An Innocent Man." The album went on to sell over 7 million copies and made it on the U.S. pop charts for 111 straight weeks.

Joel took the 70s and 80s by storm, and the 90s were no different. His 1993 album, River of Dreams, entered the charts at No. 1. The Piano Man made his way back to the limelight with his 2001 album, Fantasies & Delusions. The next year, "Movin' Out," a Broadway musical based on Joel's life, made its debut.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has accumulated more accolades throughout his years than most artists even dream of. As one of the best-selling artists of all time, a six-time Grammy Award-winner, who has been nominated for more than 20 Grammies, it's clear that Billy Joel is a legend in his own right.
