Cosby began his career working the comedy circuit at small clubs in Philadelphia. He moved on to New York and was soon doing shows all over the country at clubs in Chicago, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Washington, D.C. His big break came in 1963 when he was invited to do a short set on NBC’s The Tonight Show. He became nationally recognized because of that set and went on to sign a recording deal with Warner Bros.

His fame continued to grow with shows like The Cosby Show and Fat Albert. When the Cosby Show ended, he moved on to film. He had roles in classic films like Uptown Saturday Night (1974), Let’s Do it Again (1975) and Mother Jugs & Speed (1976).
