Early work
Ansari was born in South Carolina, but moved northward to attend New York University, where he graduated with a degree in marketing. By 2004, Ansari started performing regularly at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. In 2005, Ansari formed the sketch comedy troupe Human Giant with fellow comedians Rob Huebel, Jason Woliner, and Paul Scheer. The troupe garnered enough attention to get their own show on MTV, which ran for two seasons in 2007 and 2008. MTV offered to sign the quartet for a third season, but they decided to pursue other ventures.

Meanwhile, Ansari was also proving himself as a solo standup comic. In 2006 and 2007, Ansari toured with Flight of the Concords and Comedians of Comedy, before headlining a tour over the following two years. Dubbed the Glow in the Dark Tour, Ansari not only wowed audiences nationwide, but also had one of his performances recorded as a Comedy Central special. Known for his remarkably personal brand of comedy, Ansari tours often despite his numerous television and film appearances.

’Parks and Rec’ and beyond
Ansari was announced as the first hire for “Parks and Recreation” in 2008. When the show debuted in April 2009, Ansari was quickly lauded for his natural onscreen talent and was named as one of the year’s breakout TV stars by Entertainment Weekly. In 2010, Ansari was selected to host the MTV Movie Awards and made two short films for the event, one in which he reunited with the Human Giant crew and another with Zach Galifianakis. Ansari stayed on as an integral member of the “Parks and Rec” cast for all seven seasons that the show aired.

Ansari’s film and television roles have been wide ranging. He had a four-episode appearance on the popular hospital comedy “Scrubs” during the show’s last season. He has also made voice appearances on “Bob’s Burgers,” “Adventure Time” and “The Venture Bros.” Ansari’s filmography includes numerous critically acclaimed contemporary comedies, including “Funny People,” “I Love You, Man,” “Get Him to the Greek” and “This is the End.”
