|Armin Van Buuren is a DJ and producer of electronic dance music originally from Leiden, Netherlands. Before being becoming a DJ Legend Award winner five straight years in a row, Armin Van Buuren was mixing things up in his native Holland. The Holland-native didn’t discover dance music until his close friend and DJ, Ben Liebrand, introduced him to the genre, and it wasn’t long before Van Buuren became entranced by it. After he discovered dance music, the aspiring DJ picked up turntables, and started mixing his own music. By 1995, Van Buuren landed his first few gigs, spinning on Campus at Lieden University, where he was studying to become a lawyer.|
Van Buuren’s music mixes classic trance elements with house and synthesizer-heavy dubstep beats to create a sound that attracts fans from across the electronic music spectrum. One of the most celebrated DJs in all of electronic dance music, Van Buuren’s career began in 1995 and has spanned the release of multiple studio albums.
In 1995, Van Buuren rolled out his first big hit, “Blue Fear,” and a few years after, “Communication” made waves on the EDM scene, gaining radio airplay. Following the success of his first few singles, Van Buuren formed his own record label, Armind. It was his record label that led the DJ to meeting Dave Lewis, the man behind jump-starting the careers of DJ Tiesto and Ferry Corsten. With Van Buuren’s new comrade, came new collaborations, and the rising DJ crewed up with Tiesto on his biggest hit under his new label, “Eternity.”
The popularity of “Eternity’ coupled with the DJs record for putting on five-hour sets amped up his reputation. By 2002, he had his own radio station, and placed in DJ Magazine’s Top 100. Only a year later, the mix-master set a worldwide record for the longest DJ set, spinning 12 and half hours at club. But breaking world records, wasn’t the DJ’s only feat in the early 2000s, Van Buuren managed to finish his law degree and release his first non-mix album, 76.
2005 saw the release of Shivers, followed by Imagine in 2008 and Mirage in 2010. His 2010 album featured appearances by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, BT and Ferry Corsten. By 2013 Van Buuren released his fifth studio album, Intense.

Van Buuren’s albums include 76, Shivers, Imagine, Mirage and Intense. He received a Grammy nomination in 2014 for Best Dance Recording. This was particularly significant since it made him only the fourth trance artist to ever be nominated for a Grammy. Most of his accolades have come from within the world of electronic music itself. He won the No. 1 ranking on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJ’s five times, including four consecutive years in the late 2000s. He continues to tour in Europe and internationally.
