I attended the football game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys on October 12th, 2008. It was an exciting game that featured excellent plays by both teams. The game was close and went into overtime. The game was played at the University of Phoenix stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The University of Phoenix stadium is well designed and is an excellent place to watch football. Glendale is part of metropolitan Phoenix, which has excellent weather during the football season. Therefore, an Arizona Cardinals football game in Glendale can be a part of an memorable Arizona vacation.

The Arizona Cardinals are members of the West Division of the NFC in the NFL. The team’s home field is University of Phoenix Stadium located in Glendale, Arizona. Established in 1898, the Cards were originally located in Chicago as an independent football team and, upon joining the NFL in 1920, became the Chicago Cardinals. During the 1940s manpower was short due to World War II and the Birds were forced to temporarily merge with the Pittsburgh Steelers forming the Card-Pitt, or Carpets. At the end of the 1944 season the team was once again split. In 1960 the team moved to St. Louis where they remained for almost three decades building the team’s history and momentum. After several years of bad draft picks and personnel moves, the 1980s were a rebirth of a once successful team. In 1987 the Cards enjoyed a comeback success that garnered them the honor of the leading fourth-quarter comeback in NFL history. Regardless of recent triumphs, in 1987 the team shifted to Phoenix on the owner’s dissatisfaction. Fan preference shifted the team’s name from a city based title to a state based and soon Arizona Cardinals tickets were in high demand. Having inhabited several cities, the Cardinals enjoy a variety of rivalries starting with the bitter historical opposition against the Green Bay Packers that began in 1921, then moving on to the divisional foes of San Francisco 49ers, St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks. Owners of conference and division championship titles as well as having made several Playoff appearances, the Arizona Cardinals have yet to clinch that desirable Super Bowl title.
