Alvin Ailey Dance Theater Tickets

Few dance companies have had as big an artistic and cultural impact as the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Formed in 1958 by its legendary namesake, the troupe began performing all over New York City, quickly gaining a reputation for technical mastery and creative interpretations of the classic dance canon. Now, more than 50 years later, they are still performing groundbreaking routines, and you can see them firsthand by purchasing Alvin Ailey Dance Theater tickets.

In its first few years, the Alvin Ailey company made a name for itself as an all-black troupe, making it the first such group to gain national prominence. But by 1962, dancers from other racial backgrounds were brought in because Ailey thought that would be a better way to further his message of peace and harmony.

From that time on, the troupe would begin traveling the world, first as part of President John F. Kennedy’s cultural outreach program, then as a stand-alone act that drew international renown. Ailey led the company from its home in New York City until his death in 1989. But even after he died the troupe that bore his name continued to push the envelope of dance, setting a standard that companies around the world have been trying to live up to ever since.
