A Raisin in the Sun Concert Tickets

You won't want to miss out on one of the most anticipated Broadway shows - A Raisin in the Sun. This is a drama by playwright Lorraine Hansberry, and it originally premiered on Broadway in 1959, starring the legendary actor, Sir Sidney Poitier. By grabbing A Raisin in the Sun tickets now, you can watch in amazement as the talented Denzel Washington takes the stage alongside Diahann Carroll, a Tony winner who with her role in A Raisin in the Son made her first Broadway appearance in more than 30 years.

The story follows Washington's character, Walter Lee Younger, and his family, and the troubles they confront when Walter's elderly mother inherits a large sum of money.

The African-American family, living in the 1950s, tries to determine what to do with this money, which might offer them a better life. Walter wishes to invest in a liquor store, while Mama - played by Carroll - wants to put the money down on a new home in a white neighborhood.

This drama is unique in that it was one of the very first plays on Broadway to really take an in-depth look at the experiences of African-American families in the pre-civil rights-era U.S. The play is performed at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in New York, the very same venue in which the original production debuted almost 55 years ago.
