Founded in 1967, the Pittsburgh Penguins are a member of the Atlantic Division in the NHL's Eastern Conference. Sporting the city's trademark black and gold, the Penguins were part of the NHL's first expansion from 6 to 12 teams. During their time at the Civic Arena, affectionately nicknamed the Igloo, the Pens captured three Stanley Cup Championships for the City of Champions in 1991, 1992 and 2009. In 2010, the team relocated to CONSOL Energy Center, the new state of the art facility across the street in Pittsburgh's uptown neighborhood. In June 2012, the building hosted the NHL Draft, with the NCAA Frozen Four arriving the following spring.
While today's team boasts a talented roster of young superstars, the team enjoys a storied history made possible by Hockey Hall of Famer and team owner, Mario Lemieux. Other notable Penguins alumni include Paul Coffey, Brian Trottier and Ron Francis.
