The western conference Colorado Avalanche, founded in 1972, hit the home ice at Pepsi Center sited in Denver. Originally the franchise was out of Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, where the Avalanche was then known as the Quebec Nordiques. Following the merger of the WHA and NHL in 1979, the team experienced several seasons that saw them finish last in their division. While the team eventually got back up on their skates and began to see some on-ice success, the franchise was sold in 1995 and relocated to the States. The future looked bright for the Colorado Avalanche as they triumphed in their first game against the Detroit Red Wings.
After completing their initial season with a pacific division win, the Avalanche defeated the Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks in the playoffs to triumph over the Florida Panthers and bring home the Stanley Cup win. Colorado Avalanche tickets became a hot item once the team demonstrated on-ice play that earned them the loyalty of hometown fans.
Holding multiple titles to their name, the Avalanche have found divisional rivalry with the Minnesota Wild, Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames. With several accolades and trophies to their name, the Colorado Avalanche continues to heat up the ice as they blaze the trail for their next Stanley Cup win. |
