| The Mavs are one of five teams in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference. The Mavericks were originally founded by Don Carter in 1980 and played their first 21 seasons in Reunion Arena. Carter was heavily influenced to bring an NBA team to Dallas by his wife’s love of basketball. The franchise enjoyed early success under the Carter regime and was thought of as a model for expansion teams. In the early years, the team was led by All-Star Rolando Blackman, Derek Harper and Brad Davis. The Mavs first reached the Western Conference finals in 1988 and lost in game seven to Magic Johnson and the L.A. Lakers. In 1994 Carter sold majority interest in the team to Ross Perot Jr. The team struggled through the Perot years, until 2000 when Perot sold majority interest to internet billionaire Mark Cuban. Under Cuban’s leadership and on the back of 11-time All-Star Dirk Nowitzki, the franchise has soared to new heights. From 2002-2012, the Mavericks have the second-highest winning percentage in the NBA and were crowned the 2011 NBA champions. The Mavericks currently hold the league’s longest sellout streak at over 10 seasons (475 games). Don’t miss out on your chance to see the Mavs take on their intrastate rivals, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets, and boarder state rivals O.K. City Thunder and New Orleans Hornets. NBA basketball at its best, see it live! |
