Reviews don,t go By lynne from columbia, md on 6/4/2012 Pros: Too crowded Cons: Never saw the stage Best For: No One lawn tickets should be limited. no where to sit. never did see a performer or the stage. could barely hear any music. ticket prices are too high for this event. had a lot of filler performers like some college choir. why pay top dollar for that garbage. a lot of drunk, ugly people acting out. buy a c.d. and enjoy your music in peace.
I had an absolute phenomenal time!! By Lulu from Somerset, New Jersey on 5/31/2010 Pros: Angie Stone--awesome, Back again this in 2010, Belasco--great, Crowd Was In To It, En Vogue- Nice addition, Engaging Stage Presence, Fantastic venue, Great Encores, Great Sound, Performers excellent-Pete, Prices very decent Best For: Adults This year I am going as a married person. Didn't know my then future husband was there last year. Meeting up with my cousin and his wife and some other friends of my new husband. We are looking forward to a great time together. Venue, tables, food, drinks are excellent. Keep this location for future jazz fests.
Capital Jazz Fest at the Merriweather Po By TEC from Philadelphia, PA on 6/11/2008 Pros: Crowd Was In To It, Engaging Stage Presence, Great Sound Cons: Too Hot Best For: Everyone It is quite unusual for temperatures to be so high this early in June however, despite the almost 100 degree days the music flowed, the people vibed and the energy was totally positive. So at an outdoor venue on the hotest weekend to date a sold out crowd feasted on the "koolest" jazz on the East coast!! INCREDIBLE!!
This was my 1st visit to the capital jazz fest weekend in Columbia, MD but it will absolutely not be my last. The performers, in spite of the oppressive heat, gave 110% performaces every day of this event. Patti Austin was an engaging & motivating host. I believe I was treated to stellar performances from Brian Culbertson & the Funk experience, Maysa, Boney James and Jonathan Butler.
The crowd was very adult & quite tolerant of the oppressivly hot weather. People were indulgent in all the public spaces I observed. The vendor pavilion was excellent & quite diverse with wares of every sort from orginal african art, to exotic toe jewlery and everything in between. The food court and beverages kiosks were plentiful, amply spaced with incredible variety close enough to every exit that you didn't have to walk for miles.
KUDOS Capital Jazz & XM Radio for a completly class act... sound was excellent, ushers helpful as possible and you draw the best crowd I've seen in years!! We will return ...we will purchase early next year...Hey how about including KEM in the next lineup!!
 A must see event...
