The Hannah Montana Phenomenon
Daughter of the famous country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, Destiny Hope Cyrus became interested in an entertainment career at the age of nine. Her father was on a television series in Canada called “Doc” where she played a character named Kylie. Although prior to 2007 she had never taken formal singing lessons, this childhood star took to it like a moth to the flame.
Prior to the shows debut on March 24, 2006, Michael Poryes (co-creator of the show) sought out to find the perfect girl for the title role. Miley (childhood nickname) Cyrus auditioned originally for the part of the best friend Lilly Romero (which was later changed to Lilly Truscott), but producers of the show felt she would be better suited for the title role. Other finalists for the Hannah Montana show included Jordan McCoy and pop R&B singer JoJo (who rejected the role). Cyrus tried out for the main role (which then was called Zoe Stewart/Alexis Texas) and got the part. Interestingly, her father plays her character’s father on the show. After being cast as Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel, Cyrus became an overnight sensation.
On top of the already skyrocketing ratings for the show on the Disney Channel, Hannah Montana concerts have also been extremely popular, with Hannah Montana tickets selling out at every venue. Some concert tickets were found scalped for thousands of dollars. Parents like the fact that Miley is a role model for kids, given that so many teen stars went a negative route. Concert tickets
to see Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana are currently unavailable, but since she is still young and at the prime of her career, there are plenty of chances that she’ll be back in action before long.
