Forget what you thought you knew about the live entertainment industry; North Dakota and New Hampshire are a couple of the hottest spots to see live music in the U.S.
At least, they are this weekend, according to our TicketsNow concert sales data. We pulled the 20 highest selling concerts for the next three days and staked them out by location. take a look at where the biggest shows are happening this weekend:
See anything interesting? New York, California, and Illinois may not be big surprises. After all, each one of them contains one of the top three media markets in the United States (New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, respectively). Together, those three states account for exactly 1/2 of the top 20 shows. But the other side of the chart might hold a few surprises.
Did you expect St. Paul, Minnesota to draw a bigger crowd than Atlantic City, New Jersey? Did you expect Gilford, New Hampshire and Fargo, North Dakota to make the list at all?
Of course, a lot has to do with the acts playing in these cities. They're big names, to be sure. Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran are taking over in both Minnesota and North Dakota, and Brantley Gilbert and Florida Georgia Line are filling the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford, NH. Other acts in this weekend's top 20 include Dave Matthews Band, Blake Shelton, Backstreet Boys, and the Allman Brothers. It's an eclectic collection, to say the least.
All of the concerts we looked at to get this data occur this weekend, Sept. 6 - 8. That's three days. And in those three days, we've got a few bands pulling double duty in our top 20. Dave Matthews, Depeche Mode, and Maroon 5 are all on the list twice, and Taylor Swift made the list three times! She's playing a show every night this weekend, and each one of them made it into the top.
